Final Project from Nury Robles on Vimeo.

I chose a sequence of the movie Run Lola Run by the German director Tom Tyker and edited by Mathilde Bonnefoy . This movie is good reference in terms of editing because shows how editing can give the force to the storytelling and the rhythm of the movie; editing makes sense in many cases without using a dialogue.
The music plays an important part because its relationship with the images reflects the beat of the movement of the camera and the way the spectator can be awake all the time since there is not repetitive moment on the movie. According to the records documented by the Internet Movie Database (2014), Run Lola Run consists of “about 1581 transitions (edits, dissolves, fades, wipes, etc) in 71 minutes of action (i.e. excluding the credits, and pre-credits sequence).
The construction of the time in Run Lola Run relies on the length of the shots, since the film itself is about rushing, the switch between one cut to another helps the editing style to be fast.
In Run Lola Run many editing rules are broken. For instance jump cuts are part of the director cinematic style. Other interesting tool is the separated screens that are use to enhance the sense of rhythm in different of actions, this emphasizes the importance of time in the story.

Effective editing is measured through continuity and analyzing film-editing techniques by using identified segments to understand the overall motives of the film.

Museum of Movie Image

I have been in New York approximately 10 years and I had not been in this museum. The most ironic as well is, I am a media student and never used this tool to see what is this museum about and how it is related to my major.
The idea of going to this trip was very helpful because having a guided visit gave me more information about things related to what I have seen during classes.I really liked seeing the "Magic Lantern" because imaging how people were amazed by just seeing printed images and how now we have access to digital images, 3D movies and the special effects on films. I would love to see the faces on those people having all media that we enjoy now.
The interacting part where we had the opportunity to do a small animation was really funny, specially because that area seemed created for kids, but everybody enjoy putting our ideas to fly and create a short 10 seconds animation. This gave me the opportunity to feel how it is putting all together a whole animated film; how hard can be drawing and editing.
Another part that really amazed me was the part where the guide showed us how sound is put on a film. She showed us a scene from "Titanic" and separated all the sounds including voices, music and sound effects.
Describing each one by one; how the movie would be without voices, how music is very important to manage emotions and how important is the role of sound effects. Having described how some of the sound effects were made was really helpful because the guide explained that we can make effects with everything.
I really enjoyed this trip and I hope i can come back to see more things.

My Profile

Nury Robles

I am a Documentary and TV Production student and I am really enjoying learning everyday and watching how Media grows everyday as well.
I am from Mexico where I have a bachelor’s in Journalism and Communication without finishing it; well I just need to do my thesis and then take the professional test to get "the real paper" that will certify me as a professional. This unfinished degree represents many things in my life, such as I am part of the old school where Internet was just for certain people, and I did not have all the information and tools that we have today and because it gave me the skills that I am perfecting today.
As many people in New York, I have been working in the Hospitality industry. So it has given me many good things to become a better person. I have learnt to be on time, work well under pressure, I learnt to create a sense of anticipation, to be a team player, to have organizational skills, to be approachable and the most important thing, to speak myself up and to speak in front of people not caring about my accent or my level of English. It has worked. I have improved my communication skills.
The experienced that influenced my life the most, it has been coming to the US. I love New York, even in winter when I say I hate it. This multicultural city, it is full of energy and it offers to you all you need or want.
In 5 years from now, I want to be a good editor or magazine writer and travel all around the world. I want to be happy with the experiences I can encounter!
